Every year thousands of Israeli families flock down to the south of Israel to see a unique sight- fields painted red with flowers! After the rainy season comes the annual bloom of these beautiful red flowers in the Northern Negev region of Israel. This festival called “Darom Adom” started back in 2007 when locals realized the tourism potential of the area. The festival spans from mid-January- until the end of February while the anemone flowers are blossoming and at their finest. Thanks to the beauty of the red flowers, the villages around the area benefit from the flock of tourists and set up marches, races, and artistic performances to take advantage of the potential.

At first glance the area seems very normal, trees in small forests, grassy fields… but after reaching a certain point one begins to see the entire field turn red- a real unique phenomenon. The area is perfect for a family picnic, a scenic walk, or a romantic evening with wine and cheese in the field. The Hevel HaBesor area where the flowers bloom doesn’t usually receive much tourism since it is located in close proximity to the Gaza border. This area is usually lower income and doesn’t attract many from other areas of the country. The flowers truly bring the country together with people from all regions coming for a weekend visit.

The following locations are some of the best spots to see the flowers:
Beer Marvah
Kissufum
Dvira Forest
Alumim
Beeri Forest
Or HaNer
Shuka Forest
Reim Parking Grounds
Saad Junction
Shikma Path
Ruhama
We recommend you come check it out for yourselves. I promise the pictures don’t do it justice. It is truly a sight to be seen!
